How to move home with your pet cat

Cats are not a big fan of change in location. Just like humans, it is also stressful for cats to suddenly move to a totally new location. Even for us human, moving is a new wrecking task, there are certain things that can be done to make the entire moving experience easier for your pet cat.

Prepare in Advance

You can spend some time to make your cat conformable with the entire moving process. This will reduce the anxiety. You can carry your cat in a carrier, this will be an easy way to carry them by car travel or air travel. Apart from that, start the packing in advance in addition to it, you can make the packing process kind of fun, if your cat loves to play in empty boxes.

During the day of packing make sure your cat’s schedule is normal, this will reduce the anxiety. Have a consultation with your veterinary doctor in advance regarding the vaccinations and other records if you are moving to a new place and switching veterinary doctor.

Day of Moving

In order to have a smooth moving experience, keep your cat in a separate room with sufficient food and water. Supervise him on regular intervals. Empty the rooms content ahead of time or you can simply place the cat carrier in that room along with boxes.

The new home for your Cat

Make sure to cat proof the entire home. Look for potential dangers and take necessary actions to create a safe home for your cat. Discard hazardous items like pesticides, cleaning supplies, insect repellents etc. In addition to it, create a safe place for your cat so that he can get a quiet place. You can also set up the room with similar furniture and a little box with food, toys, and water. This will create a familiar environment for your cat.

Make sure your cat is not frightened of the change in environment, gradually expose him to the new environment under your supervision. Meanwhile, you can also set up your cat’s home where he usually sleeps, so that your cat will also have a safe place to return if he is not comfortable or far out of his comfort area.

Try to engage your cat and help him associated with the new home.  Play with the cat and do their regular task this will help them to adapt to the new place easily.
